Why this matters for game lines, not futures
A Cup futures price barely moves for a scheduling quirk in February. A team’s moneyline or puck line on the second night of a back-to-back is a different story, especially for rosters that are thinner on defense or carrying an older goaltending tandem into a compressed stretch. The teams most exposed are the ones without much organizational depth to rotate through a heavier workload, since a coach can’t simply rest a top pairing when the schedule refuses to give him a day to do it.
The practical adjustment
Treat the weeks bracketing the Olympic break as their own betting environment. Fatigue-driven variance is higher there than at any other point in the season, and lines set on a team’s full-strength form earlier in the year won’t automatically account for a roster running on short rest twice in the same week. This is a game-by-game edge, not a preseason one, and it has to be tracked as the calendar approaches the break rather than assumed in August.
