Montreal at +2000 Is a Price on a Run the Market Half-Believes
Montreal Canadiens have Stanley Cup odds ranging from +1700 to +2500 for the 2026-27 season, affecting where to place your bet.
Quick answers
What range were Montreal's 2026-27 Stanley Cup odds in?
Montreal was quoted from +1700 to +2500 across tracked books in mid-August 2026. Other snapshots included +2000 at BetMGM and +2250 at BET99, but every quoted futures price may have moved since publication.
Why did Canadiens Stanley Cup odds differ between sportsbooks?
Books were weighing Montreal's 48-win season and Eastern Conference Final run against the uncertainty of a young roster and a 19-game playoff sample. That disagreement produced a 47 percent spread between the shortest and longest available prices.
There is no single Montreal number. There is a band, and the band runs from +1700 to +2500 depending on which book you open.
BetMGM has quoted the Canadiens at +2000. ESPN’s board has shown 22-1. BET99 was at +2250 in late July. Across the six shops VegasInsider tracked in mid-August, the spread held between +1700 and +2500 with no obvious consensus in the middle.
The spread is the story
A 47 percent difference between the best and worst available price on the same team is not a rounding error. On a $100 stake it is $800 of return. For a futures market on a club with a real playoff résumé, that is an unusually loose quote, and loose quotes exist where books disagree about what the underlying event actually was.
Montreal went 48-24-10 last season and reached the Eastern Conference Final. Read one way, that is a young team arriving early. Read another, it is 19 playoff games, a sample small enough that a book pricing the median outcome has to discount it heavily. The range between +1700 and +2500 is roughly the distance between those two readings.
Where it sits against the rest of Canada
Only Edmonton is priced as a genuine Canadian contender, between +800 and +1200 across the tracked books. Ottawa sits between +1800 and +4000 depending on where you look, which overlaps Montreal at the short end and Toronto at the long. Toronto itself runs +3000 to +4000 in August, after BetMGM had them out at +6000 in June. Winnipeg is +10000 to +15000. Calgary and Vancouver are past +40000, which is a book declining to hold a fine-grained opinion.
Montreal, then, is the second-shortest Canadian price and the only one that moved materially shorter over the past twelve months.
What to do with a range that wide
If you are betting Montreal, the question is not whether +2000 is fair. It is which end of the band you can actually get.
At +2500 you are being paid for the uncertainty in the sample: the possibility that a conference final run by a team this young was partly the draw, partly variance, and partly real. At +1700 you are paying for the roster as ESPN’s fourth-ranked team, with a restricted free agent list still outstanding and Ivan Demidov’s $9.125 million cap hit not yet on the books.
Those are different bets at the same window. The board is 33 years into a Canadian Cup drought that began the last time Montreal won it, and nothing on it currently suggests the market expects that to end this season. But somewhere between +1700 and +2500 is a price worth taking, and finding which end of it a book will give you is most of the work.
Prices quoted were available in mid-August 2026 and will have moved.
