Stanley Cup Futures 2026-27: The Market Is Paying for Brady Tkachuk, Not Carolina's Cup
Florida sits at the top of one Cup board and fifth on another. That gap is the most exploitable number in the NHL futures market right now.
Carolina won the Stanley Cup in June and still isn’t the favourite to win it again, because the story of this offseason was written in Sunrise, Florida, three weeks before the Panthers ever touched free agency.
On June 21, Florida acquired Brady Tkachuk from Ottawa for the No. 9 and No. 25 picks in the 2026 draft, a conditional 2029 first-rounder and a 2027 second. Tkachuk had a no-movement clause and used it, handing the Senators a four-team list that included the Panthers, Golden Knights, Hurricanes and Wild. He landed with his brother Matthew, carries two years left at $8.2 million against the cap, and arrives on a team that spent 2025-26 buried under injuries rather than genuinely regressing.
The market noticed. By July 30, BET99 had the Panthers as the outright favourite at +640, ahead of the defending champion Hurricanes at +700, Colorado at +750 and Vegas at +850.
The Board Does Not Agree With Itself
Here is where it gets useful. As of today, Sports Interaction prices the same season very differently: Colorado +700, Carolina +750, Vegas +1000, and Florida down at +1100 alongside Edmonton.
That is not a rounding difference. A bettor taking Florida at +640 and a bettor taking Florida at +1100 are making the same wager for wildly different returns, and one of those books is going to look foolish by April. Two sportsbooks with legitimate Canadian operations have looked at an identical roster and disagreed by 460 points on the same team’s moneyline. Futures markets in August are thin, slow and inconsistently maintained, which is exactly why line shopping pays more in the offseason than it does in March.
If you like Florida, there is no argument for taking the short number. If you think the Tkachuk trade is being overpriced, the short number is the one you fade.
Carolina Earned More Respect Than This
The Hurricanes closed out Vegas in six, winning Game 6 by a 3-0 shutout on June 14 behind goals from Taylor Hall, Jackson Blake and Nikolaj Ehlers. That capped a 16-3 postseason, one of the more dominant runs in recent memory, and delivered the franchise its first championship since 2006.
Jordan Staal took the Conn Smythe at 37, becoming the oldest player ever to win it, and the 17 years between his championships is the longest such gap in league history.
A team that goes 16-3 in the playoffs is usually treated as the baseline for the following season. Instead Carolina is second or third depending on where you shop, in part because Frederik Andersen, who went 13-2 with a 1.89 goals-against average through that run, is no longer in the building.
Where We Land
The honest read is that nobody in the +640 to +1100 band separates cleanly on talent. Colorado, Carolina, Vegas and Florida are four legitimate contenders and the pricing between them reflects narrative more than projection.
The play is not picking one. It is refusing to take any of them at a number a competing book will beat by four points of implied probability. Check both boards before anything hits your card, and remember these prices were set before a single training camp opened.
